the world of phodeand

The land of Phodeand is full of all sort of magic, mythical creatures, and different races with their own cultures and histories. The land is overall ruled by a pantheon of Gods who try to work together to keep the world turning.

HUMANS

Humans are a rather mixed bag compared to the other common races. They can be found anywhere that isn’t the Enchanted Forest and can be found doing almost any job. They’re hardy, and though not as strong as Orcs or as magically inclined as Elves, they are good with figuring out any tools given and seem to figure out ways to squeeze out of bad situations.
Humans have (an almost ironic) history of racism, but they’ve evolved out of those ideas in more recent times - recent being two hundred years ago. Initially, their kingdom worked off the idea of keeping other races out for fear of them bringing increased crime, violence, or in the less intense views, they didn’t want to lose jobs to others who would be more naturally inclined. And though there are definitely humans who still hold these thoughts, this is much less common these days and the Kingdom of Chouries is open to anyone - so long as you follow the law, of course.

King Tordos

Sir Alcott

ELVES

Elves had previously been open to others as well, but about four hundred years ago,a fifty-year long war between all the races had led the Elven king at the time, Myriil, to decree that no Elf will leave their forest and no non-Elf shall enter, using his most talented mages to encase their home in a barrier spell where only those with Elven blood may enter or leave. Even now, this law is taken seriously by the royals, so it is extremely rare to see an Elf outside the Enchanted Forest, where they live.
They find it dishonoring to engage with other races romantically, and sometimes even if it’s just as friendship. Due to being left to their own devices and form of history, Elves tend to be quite stuck up and believe themselves to be better than the others. They also have a natural talent for magic and are highly religious - mostly worshipping the God of Nature and Seasons, Caion, and Goddess of Magic and Knowledge, Kaona, though sometimes they may worship other Gods as well.

DWARVES

Dwarves have always been one of the more accepting, nonchalant races. They don’t seem to mind who you are, what you’ve done, or where you’re from as long as you’re an honorable person and a hard worker. They used to mostly live in the mountains, where they work their mines, but have ventured out to live in other kingdoms as well.
They have many tolerances such as alcohol, pain, and heat. So they often end up working in blacksmiths and can be found visiting taverns often due to their social nature. Dwarves are very friendly and tend to be one of the first in a group to start conversations. They are also not religious, but if they are it’s usually a God of their own choosing rather than an overall idea of the entire community.

ORCS

Previously seen as bloodthirsty maniacs, Orcs have followed a completely different path over time, becoming less violent as they have mingled with other kingdoms - Though the Orcs live in tribes still, rather than one whole kingdom. Despite being more peaceful these days, Orcs still see the honor in battles won whether it be actual war or simple wrestling matches - which they often enjoy and participate in.
Orcs are still sometimes coined as violent idiots, but they still have their own forms of worship of the Gods as everyone else. They tend to worship the Goddess of War and Blacksmithing, Krodaris alongside the God of Fire, Khilo, and surprisingly enough the God of Love, Uldir. Despite having honor in violence, Orcs are actually very loving and tend to end up with completely healthy and happy relationships or families. They even have an emphasis on taking care of your family, many Orcs turn to take care of their parents once they’re too old to really take care of themselves as a sort of “repayment” for all the years of parenting. They find the idea of “found family” a bit strange but are one of the few (alongside Dwarves) who would eagerly accept such things.

The end of the world is different than we expected...

It's the year 2094 and a series of volcanic eruptions have blocked out the sun so much that the warmth barely reaches Earth's surface - creating an eternal winter that has lasted 70 years so far.

Nature being nature, it persisted. Humans had managed to form communities and retain heat meanwhile animals and plants started to evolve to live despite the freezing temperatures. There are woolly rhinos, giant snow wolves, and massive arctic bears somewhat similar to a polar bear of years gone. The volcanic ash settling had somehow mutated some animals as well, often creating bizarre and almost dangerous species.
Wooly rhinos are often used as mounts despite how difficult it is due to their poor eyesight. Sheep still persist - with thicker whool - and a species of fluffy cow had been bred. Long-distance communication is near impossible due to the ash, leaving each pocket of humanity mostly isolated.

Rainersville

A city developed by the first mayor - Rainer - that is well-developed with technology and a decently sized population. Despite being called "mayor", the leader system works similar to a monarchy rather than a democracy. The current mayor is Edwin, who tends to keep to the "traditional" punishment of banishment for people who disobey the laws or speak up against him. This means certain death, as they would have little to no protection against the elements or animals.

The Frost Lord Cult

This is a cult that worships a deity called "The Frost Lord" named Okshal - They believe he will keep them alive as long as they worship him and one day he will come save them from the wasteland that is Earth. They live in a camp that is surrounded by a few livestock and plants - though not many. The cult has cabins built for the members, which there aren't many of - only fifteen.
The leader is Bederlt and he often uses the Frost Lord as an excuse to make his cult do what he wishes. Part of his control is to make members drop their last names and choose to forget their past to focus on Okshal.

Bederlt

Cyrus

Barnet Jansen

Age: 57
Gender: Male
Nationality: Irish

The current captain of his own crew, Captain Jansen can be both heartless and forgiving depending on the situation, though he tends to lean towards the former. Raised knowing nothing but the life of a pirate, he wouldn’t trade it for anything else.

Barnet Jansen was born in 1644 to a single, 18-year-old, mother who had died during the birthing process. Due to the embarrassment of the girl having a child before marriage and so young, any records of her were likely destroyed, and the pirate pillage after Barnet’s birth didn’t help. The small town he had been born to saw Barnet as a cursed child, and seeing as the father never stepped forward, they were just going to toss the unwanted baby into the sea. However, pirates had pillaged their town before they could, and the captain at the time - Bertram Edwards - had found the baby and took pity on him for reasons never said. The captain had taken Barnet in and raised the baby as his own, teaching him the way of a pirate since he could understand words.
It wasn’t until 1656, when Barnet was 12, however, that he’d assist in anything more than simple chores around the ship. It was this time that he was first allowed to start real pirating, stealing from small towns. It was also this time that Barnet killed his first man, though he never regretted it in the end. It wasn’t long after this that Barnet assisted in the attack of a couple of other ships, something he had been immensely good at. He was also very good at intimidating prisoners for information or to scare them into begging other sailors to just give in and offer the pirates whatever ransom they had been demanding. Barnet was even heartless enough to suggest killing the prisoners anyway after getting the ransom along with any sailors dumb enough to actually board the ship - to which Captain Edwards had agreed upon, finding the child’s dangerous streak admirable.
When Barnet turned 28 in 1672, Captain Edwards had died of an infection from a bullet wound. While the initial captain was injured and dying, he had declared Barnet to be the new captain after Edwards’ passing. While saddened by his adoptive father’s death, Barnet - now known as Captain Jensen - had decided it was best for everyone to drink and move on after the land burial to show respect. Anyone dissatisfied with the choice for a new captain was demanded to leave or die, as Barnet was not one to take disrespect from his crew.

Fun Facts

➥ He unknowingly shot his own father once but never got his identity
➥ His favorite soup is something similar to tomato soup, despite the fact tomato soup wouldn’t appear in a cookbook until 1857 and he rarely got to eat it

Leyson Awbrey

Age: 39
Gender: Male
Nationality: Welsh

Probably the most aggressive crew member, Leyson is the man most likely to be sent out first to attack other ships or coastal towns. He is also the first to volunteer for anything violent whether it be stealing, kidnapping, harming, or even killing, he’ll do so with a smile and no hesitation.

Leyson was born the youngest of six children to Sian and Owain Awbrey in 1662. Since he was a young boy, his family had noticed a mean streak in him. Since Leyson’s siblings were all “normal” and hadn’t been violent apart from regular sibling rivalries, his parents could never figure out what went wrong or how to fix it, especially since mental health was barely understood at the time. Since he was about 10 years old, Leyson had turned to hurting his siblings, which was when his parents tried their usual methods of properly disciplining him which would include spankings, timeouts, and scoldings however, none of this seemed effective.
In 1675, when Leyson was 13, he had been arrested for assault yet let out for his “good behavior” in prison - where he showed that he could control himself, he just chose not to. Since then, Leyson has been in and out of prison, forcing his family to move multiple times to avoid Leyson being hanged.
It wasn’t until he was 23 in 1685, though, that Leyson’s parents would finally abandon him after becoming tired of their ruined chance at a peaceful life along with his murder of a man making it hard for them to further excuse his actions. This caused Leyson to be in and out of jobs and homes, along with further harmful behaviors towards others.
Finally in 1690, at 28, Leyson had taken refuge on a ship to hide from the law after yet another charge. He failed to realize this was a pirate ship until the crew found him and threatened his death. At first Captain Jensen was going to order Leyson’s death until the man swore up and down that he’d be a good addition to the crew due to his vicious streak. This intrigued the captain, allowing Leyson to live and prove himself - which he had. There was a point in time after this that Leyson had found a sort of girlfriend and spent plenty of time with her, only for her to be killed by an ex of hers - she had a pension for violent men it seemed - causing Leyson to abandon the crew for a few months so he could hunt down the man and see to it personally that the ex had been killed as well. Thankful for Leyson, he had managed to return to the crew afterward despite the odds of finding them again being low.

Fun Facts

➥ Leyson claims to have killed 30 men before joining the crew when he only killed 13
➥ He also lied about capturing a mermaid and selling her on the black market. Nobody knows why he said that
➥ He might have ADHD to explain the impulsivity issues, just not the violence. Instead, he was simply not receptive to learning not to be violent for other unknown issues

Theodora Bakker

Age: 34
Gender: Female
Nationality: Dutch

The only woman on the crew, causing a few other crews to not take Captain Jensen’s own as seriously, though most who make fun of her don’t live to tell the tale. Theodora is the best shot on the ship and tends to attempt to fight any man who says otherwise, along to prove her worth as an equal.

Theodora Bakker was born in 1667 to Dirk and Elisabeth Bakker. She lived in an average town with an average family, who tried to raise her as any young lady at the time should have. However, Theodora was no receptive to these lessons and instead would sneak out of the house to go try and play with some of the boys around her age or even around her brother’s age, who was about five years older. Instead of learning cooking and other housekeeping chores, she wanted to shoot guns or play rough. Her parents had given in and allowed her to learn what she wanted, hoping that it was just a phase as they hadn’t had experience raising daughters yet.
In 1675, Theodora’s younger sister was born, causing her parents to start trying to teach her more “womanly” things again due to not wanting their second daughter to be influenced. This didn’t work, though, and they instead tried to keep the sisters apart. Because of this, Theodora and Sophie never properly got to know each other. But this allowed Theodora to join the boys in their games instead, even if she had to force them to let her play sometimes.
At some point when Theodora was 15, she had gotten into a relationship with her older brother’s friend, Hendrik Amsing, but only three years later, he had lost interest in her and broke up with her instead for a different girl younger than her. He claimed that it was because Theodora was “too much like a man” despite that not having been an issue before.
It was soon after this, in 1685, that Theodora’s parents were comfortable with disowning their daughter now that they didn’t see a chance for her to be married off. And just like before they decided to focus purely on their other two children - namely their youngest daughter. Despite Cornelis trying to convince Theodora to stay, she ignored her brother and abandoned the family completely with nothing but a bit of money, food, and clothing. Off this, she tried to find a new life though it was hard for a woman to live on her own - impossible, in fact. So it didn’t take long for her to need to rely on thieving to get by, as she refused to do more…Unsavory jobs such as prostitution, which had been the only other option in her area.
12 years later in 1697, Theodora had been observed by Captain Jensen to be beating a man who had tried to sexually assault her after she refused him. Theodora had let him leave so long as he gave her money in return, and seeing this, Jensen was impressed by how strong she was despite being a woman and decided to invite her to his crew with promises of not needing to deal with men like that. Theodora was doubtful that was true but decided that living in a group was better than alone and, despite knowing how hard pirate life was, joined the crew with some resistance at first. She quickly proved herself by pecking order - fighting anyone who thought her weak or useless.

Fun Facts

➥ If she and Martha Walten from my Outlaw OCs were in the same time period, they’d kiss I think
➥ Despite preferring more “masculine” activities, Theodora does in fact like dressing up and doing “feminine” things once in a while, it’s called balance

William Armstrong

Age: 41
Gender: Male
Nationality: English

The timid Englishman only kept around for his knowledge of reading and writing, William does his absolute best to not be involved in crime. Though he’s still an accomplice and assists in informing the crew of some good coastal towns in the area from maps he remembers. Supposedly against his will.

William Armstrong was born in 1660 to Henry and Edith Armstrong, the middle child of five. He was born into a rich family who taught him proper manners alongside other skills he turned out to not need as a pirate. From a young age, his parents hired tutors for him and his siblings to teach them languages like German and French, alongside how to read, write, and, in the case of William, play piano. They also had dance lessons and tended many parties full of other rich families.
It was at one of these parties in 1676 at 16, when William’s parents and the parents of a girl around his age, Dorothy Ball, had arranged a marriage of mutual benefits. However, she died only five months later from a kind of illness. William’s parents still stayed friends with Dorothy’s, though, and offered them the chance to marry off one of their sons to William’s sister instead.
William’s home had a large fire in 1678, and when his father had stayed in an attempt to save his brother, both men died due to the flames and a portion of the mansion was destroyed. While mourning the two lost family members, his remaining family had to lose money in repairing the home, though it never returned to the beauty it had before. Sometime later, William met a woman named Brenda Cromwell and the two fell in love, dating for some time. Eventually, though, Brenda seemed to lose her feelings and had started seeing another man instead. Hurt, betrayed, and refusing to fight for something already doomed, William had broken it off and cut communication with his ex-girlfriend.
Then when he was 25 in 1685, William had married a different woman called Eleanor Harris after dating for five years. He had moved away from his childhood home by then, taking on a new estate instead and living off the money his parents had made while learning and conducting general business. The couple tried to conceive children, but Eleanor couldn’t seem to hold a baby full-term and eventually, the two gave up, though sadly. And, due to his bad luck with relationships, Eleanor was killed in an accident when a violent defense dog was unleashed by accident and mauled her, she later died of the injuries and infection caused.
It took many years for William to be at peace with Eleanor’s death, and he had decided it was time to try and move countries in hope he would have better luck and a better life elsewhere. It was 1699, and a pirate crew had stopped the ship to rob it and kill any passengers so they could later sell the ship as well. William had been lucky for once in his life, being spared on the terms that he could read and write well - something the crew desperately needed to make their life easier on themselves.

Fun Facts

➥ The order of births of his siblings + genders is a reference to my own family, just the opposite. His is Boy-Girl-Boy-Girl-Boy meanwhile mine is Girl-Boy-Girl-Boy-Girl
➥ Leyson likes scaring him because of how timid William is

Finán Murphy

Age: 47
Gender: Male
Nationality: Irish

The cook of the ship, and he is not above poisoning or betraying allies to get by. Little is known about him, and he prefers it that way - it gives people less chance to betray or hurt him.

Finán Murphy was born circa 1654. He has barely spoken of his childhood, but it sounds as though he used to be close to his mother before being separated from her - though he was likely an adult at that point, it sounded out of his own control. From what he has said before, Finán had learned his cooking skills from her and has had a few different jobs as a chef. It’s something he’s passionate about, and something he does not take lightly.
Sometime before 1696, Finán had poisoned a restaurant due to people complaining about his cooking, calling it too bland. He quit his job before people started dying from the stew he cooked that day after leaving ominous warnings to the few people he actually liked, and he fled the town before they could catch him.
Then in 1696, he found the crew as they broke Leyson out of prison to avoid his death sentence. Since the town there had annoyed Finán, he decided to help them out and offered to join the crew when he overheard Leyson claim the prison had better food than the ship. Finán saw it as an opportunity to escape the ridiculous standards of civilization, even if it meant sacrificing the materials to create new and delicious food.

Fun Facts

➥ The crew had heard about him poisoning a restaurant and it’s safe to say they don’t make fun of his food
➥ He actually has a talent for turning nothing into something, even if that something isn’t the best. He also has a good eye for what should go together just off the top of his head

Nicholas Roberts

Age: 24
Gender: Male
Nationality: English

The newest and youngest member of the crew, pirate life is nothing like Nicholas expected, but he still gives it his all - mostly due to it not being an easy-to-escape life.

In 1667, Nicholas Roberts was born to Edward and Clara Roberts. He grew up in a coastal town where everyone knew everyone, and he especially grew up with stories of pirates at sea. Nicholas was a lucky kid who didn’t get harmed by pirates - not until later in life, at least. He had an average childhood, reading storybooks and playing with his older brother, Oscar. He often played a game where he pretended to be a pirate, even though his parents tried to stop him because of how very real of a threat pirates truly were. When Nicholas did eventually leave, he only left behind a letter detailing to his family where he had vanished to because he knew they would try to stop him when he made his decision.
However, this wouldn’t stop Nicholas from imagining a life on the sea to the point where he was tempted to join some sailors who commonly visited the town. Due to his romanticized view of pirates, Nicholas wasted no time in asking to join a crew when he had managed to find them - and it took some convincing, but he did eventually wriggle into the crew. However, he was made to do all the chores on board because it was easy to force the new pirate to do it all. Nicholas swiftly made friends with another pirate called Adriaan Altena, and they became close for the year Nicholas was part of the crew until an illness swept the ship and killed most of the crew - including Adriaan - leaving only six members left, including the captain. Nicholas is disappointed by pirate life, but there is no way to get out of it and live, so he’s sticking with the crew.

Fun Facts

➥ He got really depressed when Adriaan died, and that wasn’t very long ago (about six months ago), so he still isn’t healed :(
➥ Nicholas actually doesn’t like the taste of alcohol, but he still drinks it to fit in

King Tordos

Age: 34
Gender: Male
Species: Human

Tordos was born an only child to Princess Mesumine and King Jerdal. As the only son - and only child - he was always placed with the responsibility of being an heir and spent his whole life learning to be a King. He rarely had time to be a child, though sometimes his mother would insist Tordos be allowed to go outside and play. His father was strict, teaching Tordos himself to be almost cold towards others and rule with logic rather than emotion. Tordos does not like being questioned, though he knows deep down that listening to advisors and even his spouse could be a good plan. His kingdom had gotten into a war with an enemy kingdom for a few years before it was advised to find peace in an arranged marriage between King Tordos and the enemy's offspring. (which, depending on the scenario, could be User)

Sir Alcott

Age: 37
Gender: Male
Species: Human

Alcott was born to Elborne and an unknown woman in a small village commonly patrolled by knights. Sir Elborne himself was a fantastic knight and that was expected to be passed onto Alcott - which is was. From a young age, Alcott had a justice streak and he often practiced with wooden swords. Alcott proved to be talented, quickly rising in the ranks and passing all his knightly classes until he was officially knighted at about 17. He had insisted on starting his practicing at 14. He became one of King Tordos' best knights and serves the kingdom loyally. He's won battles for them and even defeated a dragon at some point, which had been celebrated by the kingdom.

Caion

God of Nature and Seasons
Gender: Male

Caion was born alongside his brother Shedall (The God of Weather) inside a magical tree that had grown thanks to the feather of a phoenix being buried where the seed of the tree had taken root. While the phoenix feather may have naturally fallen off, it was insinuated that the feather had fallen off the same phoenix that the Goddess of Death, Ryrena, had been hunting and attempting to kill. This would make her responsible for the birth of Caion and Shedall.
Once the tree had fully grown, it revealed two infant boys in one of the holes surrounded by some kind of unspecified flower, which a farmer couple had found when they ventured into the forest to chop down firewood. The couple had taken pity on the infants, who they assumed had been abandoned, and took the two in. As a young child, Caion found he could control the nature around him from growing new plants to speaking to animals. And though he had kept this strange power a secret from his parents, Caion had admitted to Shedall what he discovered. Shedall, unfortunately, was not good at keeping secrets and had told their parents, who demanded to see. But their father was so shocked by the reality of Caion’s powers and had a heart attack and died on the spot, upsetting the family but upsetting Caion most of all due to feeling responsible. So he grew an evergreen tree over his father’s grave, as the leaves would stay green in the symbol of his father’s memory lasting as long as the green of the leaves do - forever. Not wanting to frighten others with his magical powers, Caion had said his goodbyes to his family after he finished growing the tree and left.
At one point once the two had grown, Shedall had found Caion again and informed him of their previously unknown godly status, which explains their inhuman strength and strange powers. This did little to make Caion feel better over their father’s death, however, and he insisted on staying isolated - though he’s visited the other Gods in their realms before and tends to wander all of Pophodean to check on the life growing. Due to being isolated, Caion does not interact with anyone if at all and he is a rather peaceful God who avoids conflict where he can, which is why he is put off by others, who tend to cause destruction for personal gain. He is made upset by meaningless hunting or destruction of plant life.

Kaona

Goddess of Knowledge and Magic
Gender: Female

Kaona was said to have been hatched out of a dragon’s egg, and though the dragon was confused by one of her hatchlings looking so different, Kaona was still raised alongside her dragon siblings. At the time, only dragons knew of magic and so Kaona was the first non-dragon to learn. She had always been intelligent, born with more knowledge than the average child should have alongside immense strength.
Kaona and her mother had faced ridicule from the other dragons for keeping a non-dragon around, but their small family had ignored it all. Until Kaona had become grown and the other dragons tried to send her away. It caused a fight that killed Kaona’s mother, and in the midst of her and her siblings mourning, Kaona had chosen to run away. She found the early versions of Elves and taught them everything she knew about magic, successfully gaining revenge by spreading sacred dragon knowledge in a form that non-dragons could utilize. This is the reason why she is honored by the Elves, for providing them the magic they use daily.
She is recorded to be friends with Krodaris, the Goddess of War and Blacksmithing, and is known for war tactics over the general bloodthirst that comes with it.

No Scenarios

Khilo

God of FireGender: Male

One day Shedall, the God of Weather, had caused a rather large storm after King Esmond - A previous human king - had upset him. And this storm was so powerful, that countless lightning bolts had landed around the kingdom, setting fires left and right. One of these flames had formed a new being - Khilo - who had taken almost a full year before the fire along his body had finally gone out to reveal the person underneath. Khilo, being born of fire, had the same powers and at first had run around causing chaos with these powers until Shedall, who was the direct cause of his birth, was sent out to deal with him.
The two had a fight for a week straight until Shedall managed to throw in a huge enough rainstorm to completely drown out all of Khilo’s fire. The new God was imprisoned in the Underworld until he could learn to control himself, which took a thousand years. Now Khilo works alongside Krodaris, the Goddess of War and Blacksmithing, and occasionally Kaona, the Goddess of Knowledge and Magic. This is partly due to the fire he creates being useful for blacksmithing, but also so they can keep an eye on him in case Khilo feels the desire to cause more trouble. He can be unpredictable, after all.

No Scenarios

Krodaris

Goddess of War and Blacksmithing
Gender: Female

The oldest sister of four, Krodaris was one of the first Goddesses to appear, arriving in an early version of Pophodean from the ground after a volcano erupted and an earthquake had shaken the forming God and Goddesses out from underneath, revealing them to the world. Krodaris, Myher, Nixidia, and Ryrena. Krodaris had learned to shape the stone they had been born from into weapons to use for war, promptly becoming a master of it - and therefore the Goddess.
She had hidden herself away for a while after a bad argument with Ryrena, her sister complaining about Krodaris creating weapons that would only make her job harder and lengthier. Krodaris claimed she hadn’t created the weapons for that sole purpose, but it didn’t seem to click for Ryrena until quite a few years later - when they eventually made up.She has found herself being worshipped mostly by the Orcs, starting to lean more heavily into the bloodlust of war. For many, many years, Krodaris had encouraged war and fighting - even convincing her followers that she required sacrifices or else she would kill them all. Though eventually Krodaris had matured and grown out of such power, working with her friend Kaona to be more intelligent on the matters of war.

Myher

God Life and Day or the Sun
Gender: Male

The only brother and youngest of the four, having been pulled out of the ground by his sister Nixidia rather than emerging on his own. Myher started life weak, but once the sun had risen that day and he took in the warm life it was giving to the world, the God found himself becoming as strong as his older sisters until he was strong enough to consider himself a proper God. The sun had given him the power of giving life to the world around him, though the job of giving nature alone life was passed off to Caion once he was born instead.
Myher assists in the sun’s rising, still playing a role in life-giving in that way. Though Nixidia is the Goddess of Fertility, it’s still common for pregnant mothers to pray to him as well for the baby’s safe delivery. Or he’ll get prayers when people are sick and need recovery, making him the God of Medicine in a way as well. He knows quite a bit about healing, wanting to keep everyone alive - which directly clashes with Ryrena, who he often finds himself butting heads with.

Nixidia

Goddess of Marriage and Fertility
Gender: Female

The second born of the four siblings, finding her way to the surface right after Krodaris did. As she helped Myher be “born”, she sort of became the Goddess of Fertility, though that wouldn’t be official until much later. Instead, Nixidia found herself infatuated with the ideas of love and marriage, blessing weddings as she sees fit until she had become known as the Goddess of Marriage. Then she would encourage wives to have babies, giving her the second title everyone knows her by.
So it would be no surprise that Nixidia had fallen in love once and had married another - a man called Turge, an Orc in fact. He was one of the only at the time who hadn’t been as bloodthirsty as the tribes were at the time - and Nixidia loved him. So much so that she had gotten pregnant with his child. Another man, a magician named Dhath, had seen this and became jealous. He didn’t want Nixidia with anyone else, so one day he used his magic to turn Turge into a wolf before convincing some nearby farmers that the now-wolf Turge had been eating their sheep. So the farmers hunted him down and killed him, leaving Nixidia heartbroken and now a single mother who had to care for their son, Uldir, in the middle of mourning. In a fit of anger, she demanded her sister Ryrena steal Dhath’s soul to drag into the Underworld with the rest - to which she did. Though Nixidia is not a usually violent Goddess, she does not regret allowing Dhath’s soul to be stolen.

Ryrena

Goddess of Death and Night or Moon
Gender: Female

The third sibling “born” from the ground, Ryrena has always been nonchalant about the lives of mortals. She could see souls before any of the others and didn’t bat an eye when her only brother Myher couldn’t get out on his own. Instead, she prompted the idea of leaving him there to his own devices, not caring if he would end up dead or not.
She had taken on the role of controlling the dead and guiding them to the Underworld herself, her cold demeanor a good barrier between her heart and the cries of those who died or the ones mourning the dead. Ryrena much prefers the loneliness that comes with her job, not particularly enjoying socializing with others - though she is not above visits from her siblings. When it had turned out the Myher only knew how to control the sun and not the moon, Ryrena had decided to take on the job, thriving in the darkness that the moon brings.
Ryrena won’t hesitate to help her siblings despite her dark or antisocial life. She is more than happy to take a soul to the Underworld before their time - such as what she did to Dhath for Nixidia - and will go out of her comfort zone at times just for them. Though she has yet to show this level of love for anyone else.
There’s a story where Ryrena was determined to prove that everything dies eventually, so she had hunted a phoenix down for ten years straight, only to never be able to collect its soul. She had accidentally caused the birth of Caion and Shedall during those ten years. To this day she hates phoenixes, frustrated by their refusal to die permanently.

Shedall

God of Storms and Weather
Gender: Male

Shedall was born alongside his brother Caion, the God of Nature inside a magical tree that had grown thanks to the feather of a phoenix being buried where the seed of the tree had taken root.
Not wanting to frighten others with his magical powers, Caion said his goodbyes to his family after he finished growing the tree and left.
Soon after this, Shedall had discovered his own powers of altering the weather, which he had shown his mother in excitement. However, she wasn’t exactly happy that both her adoptive sons had this strangeness to them. Shedall had left afterward in search of his brother, hoping to tell him of this - learning along the way that they were actually Gods. He eventually did in fact find Caion again and told him, only to be met with a nonchalant and hesitant reaction before his brother went back to isolation. Shedall gave him his space and moved on to other things, which included accdientally creating a new God, Khilo.

Uldir

God of Love
Gender: Male

Uldir is more of a demi-god than a true God, the son of Nixidia and an Orc named Turge. He had been loved by his mother his whole life, and once he was old enough to confidently wield any power, Uldir had begged Nixidia for the chance to be the God of something, anything. And because of his adoration for love and all that comes with it, Uldir had swiftly decided on being the God of Love, to try and spread it around to others.
For fear of Uldir facing the same thing she did, Nixidia had banned Uldir from falling in love or attempting to act upon any feelings. She refused to marry him off at all, refused to bless any wedding, and did her best to curse it so her son didn’t need to face any heartache. Which backfires horribly, as Uldir easily falls for people, desperate for that same love he allows others to have. Watching his mother bless other weddings upsets Uldir, to the point where he had been tempted more than once to find love behind her back.
And he had at one point, Uldir found a woman named Amisra and they planned to get married in secret, though Nixidia found out a year into the relationship and became angered. She locked Amisra away and set traps up specifically for Uldir, over time brainwashing Amisra into believing that she didn’t love Uldir anymore and that he had given up on her until she was fully ready to abandon him and any thought of a future together. Once Amisra was over Uldir, Nixidia let her go back home. Due to this all happening, Uldir has a bad relationship with his mother despite their previous closeness. He distanced himself from her, claiming to hate Nixidia as he tries to find a life for himself on his own.

JONAH HATFIELD

Type: masked slasher
Year: 1982
Age: 25
Gender: Male

Jonah was born in 1957 to Maria and Charles Hatfield. Before his birth, Maria had ran away from her family to some wooded area where her husband had a cabin built for them. Her family hated Charles and forced her to choose, expecting Maria to choose them. It hadn’t been long after that Maria fell pregnant and gave birth to Jonah. Scarily, Jonah had almost died after being born, but the inexperienced couple managed to save him. Because he was a little stunted in learning later on, Maria and Charles had a theory that his near-death and lack of oxygen had done something to his brain. However, Jonah had proven to be a decently intelligent child - particularly in his interests such as beetles, or bugs in general.
When Jonah was five, his maternal grandparents had found the cabin and as revenge they shot his father dead in front of the small family. It was one of Jonah’s earlier memories, being held in his mother’s arms as she screamed and cried for her parents to spare him. The only reason they had let Jonah live was because Maria swore up and down she would end herself if they killed her boy too. The grandparents treated Jonah cruelly, beating him when left alone with him, which gave the boy scars that he still has to this day. At some point, they shattered his face, leaving it disfigured. Though it healed to look mostly “normal”, Jonah still had some noticeable disfigurement in his face that he’s self conscious about.
At thirteen, his mother had gotten cancer and died because the family could not afford treatment. And though Jonah was left at the mercy of his grandparents, the doctor who diagnosed Maria managed to contact people to take Jonah and save him from the obvious abuse. Jonah was taken away to foster care and his grandparents were jailed for child abuse.Because of being isolated and abused for so long, Jonah has social anxiety that causes him to hide away from the other kids and the adults. This caused him to be behind in school, unable to focus properly. Despite his naturally large size, Jonah was often bullied by the other children because he is an easy target, he had one friend who turned on him due to peer pressure. Once eighteen, Jonah was kicked out to fend for himself - leaving him homeless and alone with almost no practical skills. Jonah had ran off to the woods he’d been born in and luckily found his old family home, where he buried the skeletal remains of his father and started living.

Job: Scavenger

Alexander grew up in Rainersville just along the outskirts. His parents were both border guards and Alex learned how to start fires at a young age so he could help his parents warm up when they got home. Alexander was an only child and has been independent since a young age. He never met his grandparents, but he always wondered about them because they would have remembered life before the frost took over. His parents were born during the eternal winter, so they only heard stories. While growing up, Alexander hadn't expressed much interest in others his age. Not in a cynical way, but simply because he preferred his own company. This is what caused his interest in taking on the job of scavenging. There wasn't a lot to scavenge in the snowy wasteland, but the city would still send people out once in a while to search for supplies or people.
Alexander became one of those people, wrapping up in furs and packing supplies for survival before leaving for days at a time. Despite how frozen it was and how unforgiving, Alexander enjoyed the isolation and challenge.

He owns and adores his dog, Cookie, who is a female pomeranian.

Warren Sterling

Because of her high-paying job, Karen, his mother, and Warren lived in a higher-class part of the city. Despite her status and being a doctor, when Warren was ten, Karen had gotten a bad sickness likely caused by the stressful and unforgiving environment of their world. Unfortunately, she had died, leaving Warren an orphan as nobody knew who his father was. Warren was put into an orphanage for a while, where he had made it his mission to learn all he could and one day fix the world. Warren was naturally an intelligent boy, quickly picking things up and learning faster than his peers. Everyone treated Warren's goal as ridiculous, saying he'd never single-handedly cure the world of its eternal winter. In fact, many people assume it will either cure itself, or they might as well live with winter forever.
As warren grew older he only grew more determined to figure out a solution, studying the research papers previous scientists had left until he could recount their ideas off the top of his head. He spent many of his teenage years cooped up and away from everyone else, which made him a little socially awkward. But Warren hated how immature people his age were anyway and tended to get annoyed with them. This left Warren to be excluded and often bullied, but he didn't seem to mind. Once he was deemed old enough, Warren got to work on requesting to shadow the scientists if he couldn't outright train under them. Eventually, the lab caved and accepted, letting Warren show up to watch them work.
Seeing how intelligent he was along with his passion, Earl Beckham had insisted on hiring Warren. Earl became a mentor/father-figure to Warren and taught him how to do various lab work. Years later, Earl had gotten into an accident at the lab that severely injured his leg and made it hard to stand for long period of time and it interrupted his work. So Earl had retired, but he is still often visited by Warren for advice or casual conversation.

When his father got old, the man decided it was time to retire and allow Edwin to take charge, so he did, and Edwin became the mayor. Edwin has shown to be selfish and he often only enacts rules that he wants rather than his community as a whole. Edwin doesn't like giving the lab in the city money because that means they can do more research and more research means there's the chance they'll fix the "eternal Winter" problem. He doesn't want the world to be fixed so he can continue having power.

Bederlt

Age: 49
Gender: Male
Job: Cult Leader

He doesn't talk about his past because of the Cult's rule of forgetting about your past in favor of your new life. His last name is unknown. What he doesn't tell people is he was born in the city of Rainersville to two loving parents and he was known as Delbert. Despite being loved and educated, Delbert had felt the need to be in control of everything, he wanted people to listen to his demands and treat him almost like a king. He had grown up average and he hated it, so once he realized he'd never get to be in charge of the city, Delbert had completely made up a deity named Okshal before renaming himself by jumbling the letters of his name. Now calling himself Beldert and a "speaker" for the Frost Lord, he managed to manipulate a small group of misfits into dropping their last named and joining his cult after agreeing to never mention or think about their past lives. Then the group stole a heat generator and managed to run away from the city to their own spot to set up a community. Bederlt was 22 at this point.

Cyrus

Age: 27
Gender: Male
Job: Cult Member (Rancher)

Cyrus had been born outside the cult initially, in a camp his parents made somewhere near Rainersville. They had been banished for speaking up against the oppressive government and were forced to camp away from the city and hope they could survive out there. Cyrus was a young toddler, so he doesn't remember the city. He just knows his parents insisted on keeping him at their side despite how dangerous it is outside. They managed to live for quite a while until Cyrus' parents died when he was around 15. Lost, confused, and unable to defend himself, Cyrus had wandered the wasteland for a few days. At one point he had been chased down dn almost mauled by a hungry animal he didn't entirely recognize because he's never had to know before. It was after this, while Cyrus was seeking shelter that he was found by the Frost Lord Cult. The leader, Bederlt, took Cyrus in and got him patched up and fed. The cult accepted the teenager, though he had to swear to forget about his life before the cult - to stop using his last name and never mention the people he knew before. Even his parents.
Cyrus did so without question and eventually rose to being a valued member of the cult. He was able to work in Bederlt more as he rose in the ranks. He's a well-respected member now as the one who cares for their few livestock, though he's a little naive.
